Our Work in Gaza
The need for humanitarian aid
As the conflict rages on in Gaza Strip, the humanitarian situation for the civilian population is worsening by the day. People in dire need of humanitarian aid are isolated. There is no food, essential goods, medical care that can be accessed. People urgently need humanitarian aid.
“Humanitarian aid in Gaza is crucial. We cannot abandon the suffering people in this contested area. As Christians, we are called to help all people, regardless of their religious background. We can see that our efforts are making a difference, bringing hope to the people of Gaza,” says Dr. Thomas Weiss, Head of Middle East Department, Malteser International.
Our joint aid for the people of Gaza
The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem (LPJ) and the Order of Malta have started a joint humanitarian mission in the Gaza to provide direct humanitarian assistance to local civilians in need.
The shared emergency response includes the provision of non-perishable food, fresh fruit and vegetables, hygiene kits as well as other essential relief supplies. The aim of this humanitarian partnership is to provide life-saving food and medical aid to the suffering population in Gaza.
LPJ and the Order of Malta remain (as of November 2024) the only organizations that are able to deliver these vital supplies to the northern part of Gaza, where the Parish is located.
More than 140 tons of food have been delivered to the Parish in northern Gaza for distribution to people in need. We were able to reach more than 40,000 people with our support.
