At Malteser International Americas, we care for the most vulnerable among us by providing aid to people affected by poverty, disease, conflict and disaster throughout North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean.

With Christian values and humanitarian principles as our foundation, we have helped people suffering from natural disasters like devastating earthquakes, hurricanes, and flooding; we’ve provided aid to those in search of stability and security from war; enabled mothers and children needing health care and medicine to not just live, but to thrive; and helped to provide sanitation and clean water for healthier, more sustainable communities.

We perform our mission by working with trusted organizations and established local partners operating on the ground.  This ensures relief is provided quickly, efficiently, and effectively. Our hyper-local approach helps us keep our costs low, so that your donations are used where they have the most impact – helping those in need.

Our work focuses on four main impact areas:

• Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
• Food and Nutrition Security (FSN)
• Emergency Response and Preparedness

We currently operate major projects in Colombia, Haiti, Mexico and Peru. We also provide disaster relief and recovery in the United States and the Bahamas.

Malteser International is a non-governmental organization with special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations. Our Emergency Medical Team has been certified by the World Health Organization, which allows us to provide medical aid during emergencies quickly and effectively.

Our Mission

Our mission is to:

• Provide relief during major emergencies and forgotten crises, helping communities rebuild and recover;
• Establish and promote primary health care services and contribute to better health through improved nutrition and food security;
• Contribute to better health and dignified living conditions by providing access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene;
• Create and operate social programs which help people secure their livelihoods and earn an income, making them less vulnerable and reducing structural poverty;
• Develop and support initiatives that reduce the risks of disaster, especially at the community level.

We follow strict, internationally-recognized guidelines for humanitarian aid, including Sphere Project, Core Humanitarian Standard, and Code of Conduct of the International Red Cross.
