Beirut. The good news from Beirut in the current situation: the first wounds of those injured by the explosion have been taken care of. Now the drug stocks urgently need to be replenished and measures against Covid-19 must be stepped up.

Malteser International Country Coordinator Clemens Mirbach is also convinced: “The greatest wound is people’s souls. The sudden, unforeseen loss of basic security came in one fell swoop. A third of the people at our mobile health stations asks for tranquilizers in order to come for the next 24 hours.

Around 200 Lebanese Maltese and emergency aid experts from Malteser International are on duty. “Many people do not want to leave their apartment because they no longer have any windows or doors and anyone can come in. They are afraid for the last of their belongings, ”reports state coordinator Clemens Mirbach. The volunteers hand out food and go to the people living in the destroyed apartments and bring them the bare essentials.

Malteser International has been providing humanitarian aid in Lebanon in cooperation with the local association of the Order of Malta since summer 2014. Together they operate several mobile health stations for Syrian refugees who have found refuge in poorer regions of the country, as well as for destitute Lebanese. In addition, Malteser International and LAKM (Lebanese Association of the Knights of Malta) support health centers in the north of the country with medicines and medical equipment and distribute aid to Syrian refugees and needy Lebanese in order to improve their basic services.Attention editorial offices :
