It’s often rural communities that first experience the direct effects of climate change. This is especially true in the mountains of northern Colombia, where longstanding droughts have ruined crops and affected the health and livelihood of families in the region.

For one week, we worked on the Colombian Atlantic Coast, alongside documentary filmmakers from Human Pictures, to capture the personal and collective transformation of a group of youth and community leaders.

Over the course of the seven days, the group from Don Diego, Colombia, gained knowledge of the impact of their actions on the environment while learning how the cumulative impact of the community can improve the effects of climate change.

The week ended with a community-wide film festival where the group shared their enriching experience with their families, loved ones, and respected leaders in the community. The effects of the week will last a lifetime.

This was in part made possible by our partner on-the-ground, ABIUDEA, and the generous support of Germany's Reflief Coalition (ADH).
