MI Americas Hosts First Fundraiser in New York City
On November 12th, Malteser International Americas hosted a dinner fundraiser – at Tiro A Segno – a private club in New York City and the oldest Italian heritage organization In the United States.
Approximately 40 guests arrived at the Greenwich Village location to learn about MI Americas work and the opportunities for involvement. MG (Ret.) Thomas A. Wessels, President of MI Americas welcomed attendees and moderated the event.
His Excellency Ambassador Paul Beresford-Hill, KM, Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations delivered remarks, reminding everyone of the long history of the Order in serving the most world’s most vulnerable people.
“The Order of Malta, in its 900 year history of service to mankind, has done much good in the name of God, has brought great charism to bear in its ministry to those in need and today it reaches out into the troubled waters of life to cast a lifeline to those who are helpless, who have nowhere to go. We are a presence at the United Nations, not as a government or political state, but as one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations, with a matchless pedigree. The Order of Malta is arguably the world’s first NGO, and its first continuously operating humanitarian organization.”
The Ambassador noted Malteser International’s unique ability to leverage its diplomatic relations with over 108 countries, to ensure free operation and delivery of services. Read full remarks here.
