MI Americas Welcomes Five New Board Members
We are thrilled to welcome five new members to our Board of Directors who will bring invaluable experience and guidance from a wide variety of fields. We hope their expertise will lead Malteser International Americas to new successes.
Kenneth R. Craig, KM is an accomplished technology and operations executive. Ken was most recently the Chief Administrative Officer and Senior Vice President of Shared Services at MCIC Vermont, the largest risk retention group in the United States. Prior to that Ken was a Managing Director and CIO for America’s Risk, Treasury, Finance, and CCAR at Deutsche Bank in New York and London, where he managed the implementation of technology and operations solutions to support business growth, improve controls, and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations. Earlier in his career, Ken gained extensive experience in program management, applications development, derivatives operations, organizational design, and business reengineering at Bank of America, Credit Suisse, and JPMorgan.
Throughout his career Ken has proven to be adept at unlocking the potential of teams, removing barriers to collaboration, and effectively managing stakeholder relationships. He is frequently invited to be a coach and mentor for graduates, trainees, and promotion candidates.
Ken holds a Bachelors of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Business Administration from Manhattan College and an M.B.A in Management and International Business from New York University.
Ken is an active member of the American Association of the Order of Malta and is serving in his second term as a member of its Board of Councillors and as Hospitaller. He is a past chair of the membership committee and has been an Association delegate to several international leadership conferences. Since 2014 Ken has been co-president of the Order’s annual pilgrimage to Lourdes, France. Ken is a member of the Staten Island Regional Catholic School Board and serves on its development committee. He is a past Secretary of both the Malta Human Services Foundation and Good Council Homes. Ken lives in New York City with his wife, Suzanne, and enjoys travelling and swimming.
Sara Kachadoorian Cumbelich, DM worked for Proctor & Gamble, keye/donna/pearlstein, BBDO and JWT in the heyday of Apple Computer, Microsoft, Sprint, Blue Cross of California & Visa. Mrs. Cumbelich spearheaded advertising campaigns for Macintosh computers in education, the Microsoft Windows operating system, and shepherded Sprint into the world of the Internet and Blue Cross of California into HMO’s and PPO’s. Additionally, she managed accounts in many other industries, including cruise lines, airlines, film, oral health, consumer electronics, computer hardware and software and telemedicine.
She left the business as a Vice President, Account Director taking her creative, organizational and communications skills to form a small one-woman consulting practice focused on flexibility. Flexibility to build a home for she and her husband and their four extraordinary children. Today Mrs. Cumbelich focuses most of her time on non-profit board work. She served 10 years on SFMOMA’s Modern Art Council transforming the fundraising arm of the museum from a parochial effort to one of national acclaim.
Her passions now are the Order of Malta Clinic of Northern California as Development & Communications Board Chair, Order of Malta Western Association Development/Communications Committees, The Town & Country Club Communications Chair, Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology Board of Trustees, The Cancer League, and the Piedmont Council of the Boy Scouts of America as the VP of Marketing.
Sara holds a B.S. Journalism from California Polytechnic University (1981).
Brian C. Duperreault, KM is former Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of American International Group, Inc. (AIG). He also previously served as Chief Executive Officer of AIG from 2017 to 2021.
Before joining AIG, Mr. Duperreault was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Insurance Group (Hamilton) from 2013 to 2017. Hamilton is a Bermuda‐based holding company of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance operations in Bermuda, the U.S. and the UK.
Mr. Duperreault served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC) from 2008 to 2012. Before joining MMC, he served for two years as non‐executive Chairman of ACE Limited, an insurance and reinsurance company, and as CEO of ACE from 1994 through 2004.
Prior to joining ACE, Mr. Duperreault held various senior executive positions with AIG and its affiliates from 1973 to 1994.
Mr. Duperreault is a member of the Boards of the Geneva Association, Saint Joseph’s University, the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) and the Partnership for New York City.
He is a former Director of Johnson Controls, the former Chairman of the Board of Overseers of the School of Risk Management of St. John’s University, New York and Chairman Emeritus of Blue Marble Microinsurance.
Mr. Duperreault holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from St. Joseph’s University.
Fra’ Nicola Tegoni is a Partner at the law firm of Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller, LLP, New York City where he chairs their immigration and citizenship practice group. He represents and counsels companies and individuals in business immigration, family immigration, citizenship, removal defense, federal court litigation, and asylum. He is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Fra’ Tegoni received his Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, in Political Science, Peace & Conflict Studies, Legal Studies, and International Studies from Brandeis University and his Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School. He is fluent in Italian and French.
Since March 2015, Fra’ Tegoni has served as a Counsellor at the Permanent Observer Mission of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the United Nations.
Fra’ Tegoni became a Member of the Order of Malta in 2012, and he presently serves as Regent of the Subpriory of Our Lady of Lourdes. He is a Knight of Justice, and a member of the Board of Councillors of the American Association of the Order of Malta.
Fra’ Tegoni, Mr. Duperreault, Mrs. Cumbelich, and Mr. Craig will begin their terms January 1, 2023, which will last three years.
We also extend a very warm welcome to Alonzo A. Álvarez Meola whose term began on December 1, 2022 and will last until December 31, 2023.
Alonzo A. Álvarez Meola, KM is a Project Manager at Chevron. He graduated from The George Washington University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (2011) and an M.S. in Engineering Management (2012). Since joining Chevron in 2013, he has been involved in energy sector major capital projects ranging from $10M to $1B. He has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in upstream Facilities Engineering covering automation, power systems, project engineering, and renewable power. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Texas and Connecticut. Alonzo is a published author and conference presenter through the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Alonzo has been involved with the Federal Association since 2012 as an Auxiliary member and was one of the youngest members of the association when he was invested as a Knight of Magistral Grace in 2016. He has served as the Chairman of the Federal Association Auxiliary committee for the past 5 years; during which time he has led young members and volunteers in various projects, such as: building an online fundraiser store, writing the auxiliary charter and by-laws, and supporting the creation of new auxiliary regions. Since 2018 to present he has worked with the American Association as a White Cross Ball Committee Member. He has also been active in attending the Order’s pilgrimages to Lourdes and Our Lady of Good Help.
Alonzo was born in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to the US in 2007 to attend the George Washington University where he met his wife of 7 years, Jessica. They live in Houston, Texas and have a 2.5-year-old daughter and are expecting a second daughter in February 2023. He has traveled to over 20 countries and speaks Spanish, English, and Italian.
