Construction is underway in Louisiana as volunteers for the newly created Lafayette Home Repair Program rebuild the city together after the devastating flood in August. Thanks in part to the generosity of our supporter, tools and equipment for Louisiana flood relief were purchased and are now ready to be put to use.

For eight days straight last August, south central Louisiana was pummeled by floods of disastrous proportions. Seven trillion gallons of water fell in Louisiana and Mississippi, three times as much water as was left by Hurricane Katrina, after a tropical storm unexpectedly hovered over the region. The stagnant storm overwhelmed rivers, bayous, canals and drainage infrastructure.

The rehabilitation program is a partnership between the Order of Malta, Malteser International Americas, Rebuilding Together, & Catholic Charities of Lafayette. It's sole mission is to help the poor, displaced homeowners from the Lafayette area to get their homes repaired and habitable again.
