USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance features MI on #WorldHumanitarianDay
USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance published a blog post celebrating Malteser International Americas staff, on the occasion of #WorldHumanitarianDay, celebrated each year on August 19th.
The article highlights the work of humanitarian workers around the world united in fighting against COVID-19. Maria-Bonita Amorim, Medical Coordinator for MI Americas in Colombia, has been at the forefront of the response to the pandemic in La Guajira, working closely with local authorities and a growing MI Americas medical team to ensure that the virus is contained.
MI Americas and USAID have partnered on a project aimed at protecting indigenous Wayuu communities through a series of activities in La Guajira. These include building potable water infrastructure and handwashing stations in rural communities, training community healthcare workers, deploying a Wayuunaiki-language COVID-19 prevention campaign, and supporting local medical provider IPSI Anashiwaya.
