Ebola disease has emerged again in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The latest declaration of the Ebola outbreak in the north-eastern part of the country is a major setback to the development of a region already struggling with poor health infrastructure, malnutrition and low life expectancy. The devastation brought about by the last Ebola epidemic of 2014 is still very fresh on our minds. In order to halt the spread of the virus and avoid further imminent loss of life, we have acted swiftly in a coordinated response. Our staff is now playing a crucial role in the fight against Ebola in the DR Congo. Over the years, Malteser International has been active in providing better health care and relief for some of the most vulnerable and severely-affected people in DR Congo.
