NEW YORK, June 6, 2021.  After serving for four and a half years as the President of Malteser International Americas, Major General (ret.) Thomas A. Wessels is ending his tenure this month and handing over the role to John E. McInerney III.

“Tom has faithfully served as President of MI Americas during four years of enormous growth that we could not have achieved without his leadership,” said Ravi Tripptrap, Executive Director of Malteser International Americas. “Tom is a great non-profit leader that not only talks the talk but walks the walk, in service of those who can’t make themselves heard. My sincere thank you for his leadership, hard work, and friendship.”

John E. McInerney III has been a Member of the MI Americas board since 2018. He was invested into the Western Association of the Order of Malta in 2001, has served on several Western Association Committees, such as Membership, Hospitaller, Investiture and Development, and has served as a Location Officer in San Francisco.

Born and raised as a fifth generation San Franciscan, Mr. McInerney is a graduate of the University of San Francisco and the University of San Francisco School of Law. He practiced in real estate law full-time for 25 years before going into real estate development and management. He remains of counsel at a prominent law firm. He divides his time between San Francisco and the Northern California wine country where he and his wife Sally grow Cabernet grapes and enjoy time with their 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

“We are excited to introduce our new President John E. McInerney III – a noted real estate developer and member of the Western Association of the Order of Malta.  John is deeply committed to the work of MI Americas and we look forward to building into the future and continue fulfilling our mandate as humanitarians under his leadership,” said Tripptrap.
