Malteser International Americas supports some of Lima’s poorest residents through the San Juan Bautista soup kitchen, which serves families with young children. The soup kitchen is run by our local partner Malteser Perú and has adapted its services by delivering food items such as milk, lentils, flour, oil, sugar, oats and soap to the families in need that rely on the kitchen for nutrition.

Malteser Peru identified 13 families that were living in extreme poverty and in urgent need of food. In total, 70 families received food packages.

Peru has extended its COVID-19 lockdown measures until May 10th. Over 30,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported, including 854 deaths. The soup kitchen will continue its mobile activities until the lockdown ends.
